This article discusses some considerations that apply when you enable anonymous access to your Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 portal site through a virtual server. When you enable anonymous access to your portal site through a virtual server, first you create a new virtual server, and then you configure the virtual server for anonymous access.

If the portal site contains custom Web Parts, where custom Web Part assemblies exist in the Wwwroot\Bin folder of the default virtual server, and where custom Web Parts are added to the Web.config file of the default virtual server, you must copy the Web.config file of the default virtual server to the new virtual server. If the Web Part assemblies are located in the Wwwroot\Bin folder instead of in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC), you must move the assemblies to the GAC or copy the assemblies to the Bin folder of the new virtual server. By doing so, the custom Web Parts are available to the new virtual server when you connect to it.
