INTRODUCTION
There may be occasions where you have to manually remove Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003 from your server. These occasions usually present themselves when the Add/Remove option fails, the server is completely corrupted, or the person who initially setup SharePoint has left the organization. If you are planning to install Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, we recommend performing an in-place gradual upgrade provided your SharePoint Portal 2003 Server is operational.
There is a specific order in which to uninstall SharePoint Portal Server 2003—the recommended order is as follows:
· Removing Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003
· Removing Windows SharePoint Services
· Removing MSDE (if no longer needed for other applications)
· Removing SQL Database specific to SharePoint Portal Server 2003
How to Manually Removing SharePoint Portal Server 2003
1. Attempt to use the Add/Remove Programs tool.
a. Navigate to Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs.
b. Select Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and choose Change.
c. Select Next.
d. Select Remove the Server Components of Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003; choose Next, choose Yes when asked to confirm deletion.
2. From the Add or Remove Programs tool, select Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 and choose Remove. When prompted for confirmation, choose Yes.
3. Explore the server hard drive to ensure SharePoint Portal Server has been removed from the directory. The default installation is located at: C:\Program Files\SharePoint Portal Server
Remove Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine 2000
1. From the Add or Remove Programs tool, select Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine 2000, choose Remove. When prompted for confirmation, choose Yes.
2. Explore the server hard drive and remove the SQL folder for SharePoint Portal Server 2003. The default location is: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$SHAREPOINT.
Remove the SQL Server Databases
If SharePoint was installed on a Microsoft SQL Server, log on to the SQL Server Management Console and remove the following databases:
1. SiteName_Prof
2. SiteName_Site
3. SiteName_SERV
Verify all SharePoint related jobs have been removed. Jobs are located under the SQL Server Agent—in particular, locate the job named: SiteName_SERV Subscription Cleanup and delete it.
Remove SharePoint Web Sites and Application Pools
1. Navigate to Start>Administrative Tools>Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager on the server where SharePoint Portal Sites are hosted.
2. Exchange the Servername>Web Sites>Default Web Sites. Right-click and choose Properties.
a. Select the Home Directory Tab
b. In the Application Settings area, note the Application Pool that was used by SharePoint Portal Server then change the Application Pool Setting to its original DefaultAppPool.
c. Delete any web sites you created in SharePoint Portal Server along with their folder location.
d. Locate the Application Pool that was used by SharePoint Portal Server, right-click and choose Delete.
Delete the SharePoint Registry Hives
1. On the server that had SharePoint Portal Server 2003 installed, navigate to Start>Run>and type in regedit in the text box, choose OK
2. Locate and delete the following registry keys:
a. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SharePoint Portal Server
b. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SPSSearch
c. Restart the server.
d. Check the server Event Logs for any abnormalities.
