"Some SharePoint Portal Server Menu Items Could Not Be Found" Message Appears Repeatedly When You Run a Macro in Word 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you run a macro in Microsoft Word 2000 after you install the Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 1 (SP1) client components on your computer, you may receive the following message:

Office Integration for SharePoint Portal Server

Some SharePoint Portal Server menu items could not be found. Click Yes to restore them or No to disable Office Integration.

When you click Yes in the message dialog box to restore the menu items, the message reappears. Additionally, CPU utilization for Winword.exe may increase significantly, and Word 2000 may stop responding.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the macro contains code that removes the SharePoint Portal Server menu items in Word 2000. In this situation, you receive a message that prompts you to restore the menu items. However, the message is not processed correctly. As a result, the message does not close as expected when you click Yes.
